Hotel description

La Zenia ****

4-star | La Zenia

The Hotel La Zenia is attractively located on a small landscaped promontory overlooking two sandy beaches. The area surrounding the hotel is refreshingly high rise free and pleasant views can be enjoyed from most parts of the hotel building. The hotel has a real ‘home from home’ feel to it, catering as it does principally for British guests. It is also a focal point for the large British ex-patriot community that lives in the surrounding area, many of whom visit the hotel in the evening to enjoy the nightly live music and dancing. Most overnight guests spend much of their stay in the palm-shaded sea view pool area, making the most of one of Spain’s driest and warmest climates.

Rooms: 220 bedrooms with bath/shower and a balcony. All rooms have telephone, hairdryer, heating/air-conditioning, digital TV with LCD screen, a mini fridge and a safe (extra charges apply).

Other Features: Main restaurant with buffet style breakfast and dinner and show cooking, spacious lounge bar, sea view sun terrace, outdoor pool, health spa (extra charges apply), live music for dancing every evening.

Wi-Fi: Free of charge both in the hotel’s public areas and bedrooms.

La Zenia

La Zenia is peaceful low-rise residential area comprised mainly of private villas with gardens. Because of this its shoreline is largely unspoilt and features lovely sandy bays either side of the hotel. An alluring beachfront bar and restaurant is located in one of the bays, and within ten minutes stroll of the hotel are to be found a variety of shops, bars and restaurants, together with a bus stop, facilitating easy transit to and from Torrevieja. In addition to offering easy access to a number of bowls clubs the hotel is also very well located for golf courses, with three options lying within 6 kilometres.

The Costa De Orihuela

Given its wonderful climate, this is a region of Spain where many British retired ex-patriots have chosen to make their home. Consequently, it is home to a number of bowls clubs. Despite being one of Spain’s overlooked areas in terms of cultural tourism it does offer several highly memorable travel experiences. To the north of it, it is no exaggeration to state that the city of Elche is totally unique, resembling a sort of mini Marrakesh in terms of its partial construction within palm groves. Beautiful garden and park areas are to be found amongst the palms and the atmospheric historic centre of the city offers some beautiful buildings and a fascinating museum of local history. To the south, the city of Murcia offers a beautiful and imposing cathedral (comprising a unique blend of Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque elements) together with a fascinating 19th-century casino featuring lavish internal decorations. Its lively pedestrianised historic centre is also great fun to explore and spend time in.

Excursion Possibilities

Elche: Travel to a magical historic city intertwined with over 200,000 palm trees. An enchanting public park sits at the centre of this palm grove, offering the possibility of a delightful stroll. Located close by is the historic heart of the city, its main points of interest clustered around the Santa Maria Cathedral and Altamira Castle. Also highly recommended is its intriguing MAHE Museum, featuring a highly varied and interactive account of the development of the city and the importance of its palm grove.

Murcia: Explore the historic downtown area of Spain’s seventh largest city. All visitors are drawn to the magnificent façade of the cathedral, constructed in an elaborate architectural hybrid style that has been christened Spanish Gothic. After spending some time admiring the equally fascinating interior a visit to the nearby casino is highly recommended, constructed with the decorative opulence of bygone more leisurely times. This entire formerly ‘intra-mura’ area is a fascinating warren of atmospheric streets and lanes featuring much noteworthy architecture and a number of delightful squares in which to stop, relax and enjoy the theatre of everyday Spanish life.
