Malcolm Fernandes first earnt the soubriquet Mr Wonderful when working as a dance music presenter at the once-renowned Café de Paris in Leicester Square. At a time when the general trend in ballroom dancing was to dance to strict tempo dance music only Malcolm became well-known for enlivening his programmes with wonderfully vibrant non-strict-tempo additions from all over the world, also incorporating many classic songs performed by much loved entertainers within an evening’s entertainment. Since the closure of the Café de Paris Malcolm has established an extremely successful dance business, Mr Wonderful Dancing, that promotes dance events, dance instruction, and dance holidays to dancers largely living within the Greater London & Home Counties regions. ‘Fun’ and ‘highly inclusive’ are descriptions that easily attach to all of his events, which are as popular with single people as with couples. In recent years these events have been further enriched by contributions from his life partner, former Senior British Ballroom Champion Janet Cunningham-Clayton, who offers dance workshops to event participants.
